Devs vs. Fans = We All Lose

E-mail Print PDF

The Internet has been all a rage lately with the controversy over the Mass Effect 3 ending. From gamers demanding refunds, to launching petitions for a rewrite, to a donation fund devoted to a new ending, and even a FTC complaint, I’ve never seen such a snafu over ten minutes of video game time ever. In the end it's turned into a fight that highlights two combatants: the developers and the fans. However, in this fight I don’t think anyone can win; in the end we will all lose.

MMO’s Can Be Fixed If the Fans Stop Breaking Them

The MMORPG genre has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade, encompassing everything from original to well-known franchises. Yet it seems that every time I read about an MMO, it’s a fan stating that “X game is boring and has no content”. The New Face of Gaming: Porn Stars

E-mail Print PDF

I've been trying to write this article for a few hours now. Why? Because my mind is still trying to decide if I should take this seriously and how I feel about it. Two porn stars, Misti Dawn and Alana Evans, have started up their own gaming website called PwnedByGirls. The purpose of the site is for all of us (horny) gamers to watch them play games naked. They have even displayed their Xbox Live tags so that you can also play with them (online you perv! ).

Check out my real thoughts after the jump.

I miss badasses. I miss real tried and true, ruthless badasses that will cut you and still save the world. Sure we have heroes with darksides (Yuri, Tales of Vesperia) and sometimes we get anti-heroes (Kratos, God of War), but its too far and in between for us to get the Renegade.

Dear Hollywood, Silicon Valley and anyone else who makes media, I want more Renegades! Thanks, Tikal...Don't go, there's more...

Why Videogames Aren't Art Yet: Fear of the Taboo

In my ongoing series on "Why Videogames Aren't Art Yet", I've talked about lack of passion and romance in gaming. I feel that those two reasons are areas in which games can improve and evolve in. But in this third and final installment I'm going to talk about a facet of video games that may seem crazy, yet vital to the furthering of the genre.

While video games have occasionally pushed the conventional taste of morality, it has rarely ever stuck to its guns. Take for instance the infamous Airport Level in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Before the game even came out, the level came under scrutiny due to your ability to choose to participate in a massacre. Infinity Ward eventually added in a warning (and ability) to skip this pivotal level due to the outcry from news outlets (like MSNBC) that couldn't even tell you what the game was about.
