Random Horror Session: Insidious

E-mail Print PDF

I heard many a rumor that Insidious was possibly the scariest movie made in this decade, that it would scare the fecal matter out of me. Unfortunately, it did not, but that doesn't mean Insidious is a bad movie. The movie actually turned out to be a decent movie with an interesting story line. The main premise is that the Lambert family moves into a new house and, soon after, one of their sons falls off of a ladder; the next day mysterioulsy falls into a coma. After that the house seems to be haunted, but even after the paranormal fight, the hauntings continue.

The movie is actually pretty interesting, but it failed to scare me. All in all, I say that the movie is worth picking up to rent, or even buying if you're into scary movies. The movie is available on DVD and should be available at your local Walmart and/or rental store.

I am so excited about this film. It's a Cuban take on the Zombie Apocalypse. Comedically and filmed in Cuba...As a Proud Cuban myself, I love this...

-- For my peoples --

The Breed

Cheesy beyond all belief, weak-as-all-get-out script, but it's got Adrian Paul being his usual sexy-as-hell BAMF self (with a pencil mustache, no less), and a panther! A real panther! If anything, the commentary is well worth the $2 you'd spend on this DVD. Plus, there's little chuckle moments like this one to make you giggle like a five-year old:

Boudreaux: Be gone! You tamper with forces far beyond your comprehension.
Aaron Gray: He didn't just say that.
Lucy Westenra: Spare us the Anne Rice routine. We are not amused.

In a dystopian future where everything is some varying shade of green (for some reason), vampires aren't exactly a secret amongst the mortal world any more. A series of murders prompts policeman Steve Grant (Bokeem Woodbine) to partner up with vampire counterpart Aaron Gray (Adrian Paul) to find the culprit. Given that the victims have had their throats ripped out and their blood drained, it seems pretty obvious that this is the handiwork of a vampire, right? Ha ha ha...maybe...but then why should I tell you the ending when you could be enjoying this movie in all its epic-fail glory?! (I'm also still trying to figure out how Lucy Westenra [from Dracula] went from being a pasty-white Victorian Londoner to a Chinese woman. Hmmmm.....)

10 Films to watch this Halloween Season you probably weren't thinking about!

Every year we love to point people out to some great Horror films and series that can give them the rush, screams, or laughs they want out of a good scar-a-thon. For me all kinds of horror tends to make me laugh or shout out the proverbial "oooohh".

This year I thought to go a little more old school. We all know about the 70's to 80's classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Romero's "Of the Dead" Series, and The Evil Dead, among a few others. But what about those rarely noticed few that some folks tend to forget about. Some great gems in horror cinema that some of you perhaps never heard about? Well, that's what you have us for.

While a variety of Cable and TV stations will be playing a myriad of horror films in the next few days, we wanted to help you with a list of awesomely gory flicks that will give you the thrills you need for this halloween season...Around here, Halloween is serious business! The Walking Dead - Season 2 Premiere

E-mail Print PDF

The Walking Dead is back, and the series premiere picks up nicely from season one's finale. The ninety minute episode in my opinion only had one very annoying quirk: It felt to me like a normal forty-five minute episode, but there were so many advertisement deals and sponsors that they extended the cut for all the commercial breaks...I should have jotted down the minutes for the commercials to actually measure it in time.

That's only a beef to me because I thoroughly enjoyed the episode and wanted more, of course. This time we don't have such a focus on Grimes, as we usually do, which is nice. I want a lot more character development from everyone, and Daryl being one of the series' add-on characters (that's not found in the comic, for those of you that only know the TV series) is a great character that had a lot of focus in this episode. We got to see more of the breakdown in Andrea which carried over from the first season, from the loss of her sister to her attempted suicide in the CDC building.
