Sometimes in life I get into a violent mood where I just want to take a swing at teachers and kick puppies out of windows. Obviously I don't do that because it goes against my moral code (and I would be in jail), but I still find ways of getting my fix. To get me through these violent moods swings I watch movies with good, wholesome values. Movies like Fight Club, Kill Bill, and Hostel make this list and help me through my rough patches. So when I heard about the Japanese movie Drop, I was hoping that I could add another movie to my list, but upon watching I was pleasently suprised that I could not.
Say what you will about Tom Cruise, he's still a fantastic actor if a bit crazy. Collateral proves how good of an actor he can be when he's not rehashing the same role over and over again. Of course, I also lay a lot of the praise on director Michael Mann (of Heat, Ali, and Thief fame). I love how realistic this film is without pandering or overdoing it. Cruise's performance is one of subtlety, and I think he pulls it off beautifully. There's also a shootout with Paul Oakenfold's "Ready Steady Go" in the background; you don't get much more epic than that!
I am a huge GI JOE Fan...I also thought the first movie was rubbish...absolute rubbish, in the words of our players out in New York "Straight up ASS!"
I can continue on a tirade of explitives, and throw out a variety of persuasive arguments why the movie was so bad. However, I still enjoyed it, I even appreciated the attempt. I now appreciate (even more) the corrections made to this sequel, without having to wait for a reboot that fixed a lot of what was wrong with the original. For one...Snake Eyes, goes back to being lipless...Thank you...Another, The Rock is in the film as Road Block (YES!)...further still, Jinx is featured (Hot!). The ridiculousness of how pew pew lasers were created in the first film made no sense, to argue this point quickly - Transformers as a film was more believable in reality then the first GI JOE...So thankfully they returned to a mass projectile type of weaponry...Also, from the looks of it, the Jar Jar binks of the film Marlon Wayans is gone (smart)...I don't dislike him as an actor, person, comedian, what have you - but he tends to make movies stupid, and his character was - as I said...the Jar Jar of Rise of Cobra...For this movie to be taken seriously or for it to work, that kind of character needed to just dissappear from the cast, quietly, explosively, stabbed in the neck with a ghurka...I don't care, he's gone, i'm a happy camper.
So I have high hopes for this sequel. Bruce Willis even makes an appearance as Joe Colton (the first GI JOE). So this one is looking to be quite fantastic! Thumbs crossed...
Graig Weich wears many hats: a comic book artist, writer, and director, but now you can add part-time Bat Villian to that list. You heard me correctly, Graig Weich will be fighting against Gotham's own Batman in the upcomingThe Dark Knight Rises movie. With the first seven minutes of the highly anticipated film premiering before the new Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol film, this interview is perfect for those curious about the latest story in Nolan's Batman universe. GPX was able to catch up with artist-turned-Gotham-thug Graig Weich and talk about his role in The Dark Knight Rises.
I've always been a huge fan of Higlander - Since I saw the first film as a rental in New York, all the way through to Highlander: Endgame - Which upset me, because I hated how Donnie Yen was killed...XD. Hey, I hate how he was killed in Blade II as well, Mr. Yen made the movie better and he had a stupid death...ok, less rage - back to the topic.
