GPX has run hundreds of panels over the years, we held them as AFS (AnimeFURY Studios) years before we became GPX. Prior to becoming a proper company, I ran panels with my friends. I believe the first panel I ran was in middle school at the age of 13. It was a panel on Thundercats and why we thought it was awesome. We have come a long way from those simple days.
You can find us now running industry panels for trade shows, cities, museums, conventions and at Universities. We pride ourselves on adapting to the industry and the community, creating new content for many of these venues. We usually will run an average of 5 events per convention but have been known to run over 12. We aim to please.
While we have all kinds of informative, historical and scholarly material we love to present. We do love to run our 18+ Adult content panels and seminars (just for us older folk to blow off some steam). If the convention permits, we serve alcohol at some of these events, because it's nice to have a shot or two (or three) with our fans.
Sometimes we like to run Game Shows that we have created, other times we like to feed people. You never know which we will do at any given convention. Everything from Gaming, Anime, History, 80's Saturday Morning Cartoons, Books, Zombies and Game Shows...I think we're only missing a panel on how to install the Kitchen Sink (I should go write a panel on that up)...
Join GPX's resident MMO Guru and Pro-Player in an open discussion forum on all things MMORPG's, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Star Wars Galaxies (before it gets shut down and the lawsuit to keep it open), City of Heroes, DC Universe and many others. Learn about some of the crazier and finer points in griefing and about high level play.
Are you a hungry Otaku / Gamer? Have you eaten at the con this weekend? What's that? No...? You have not eaten yet! Come and test the mettle of your stomach, see if you can eat the fastest or pack away the most Ramen! There are some surprises in store. We will be giving away all kinds of prizes to the last man standing. If you don't win, You at least get nicely fed.
Everyone gets to participate in our take of this old school game show (Hollywood Squares). We will pick cosplayers in the audience to participate as our squares (unless the convention provides guests) and contestants from the audience. The game is simple. The cosplayers/guests will be seated in Tic-Tac-Tie configuration and you will choose the spaces, we ask them a question, they can tell the truth, or totally deceive you on their answers. You get to agree or disagree...if you are right - you get the square. Prizes fountain out to you and the rest of the panel.
Over the years GPX has participated in events, conventions, tournaments and any number of wild parties, and in those travels we have seen some crazy S***! We have participated, we've been the cause, or S*** simply happens to us during those events. My first book, "I Think? No, I'm Sure...God Hates Me" is based on those crazy events over the last 20 years. You must be 18 and over to participate. But what a ride it will be.
Ever wanted to get an idea how Anime and Games are recorded? Ever wanted to learn the actual process of ADR Directing (Automated Dialogue Replacement) and what's the difference between an ADR Director and a Voice Over Director? Camacho, you just blew my mind...! Then Join us in our Dubbing panel, learn the process and how to use your own household software to work on your own independent projects. Get a chance to record small scenes from Halo, Castlevania, Devil May Cry and more for any variety of prizes!
GPX History of Gaming, GPX History of Anime, GPX History of Comics. We have done quite a few variations on the History of theme. From speaking at Museum's, Universities, Speaking on behalf of the Consulate General of Japan or simply having fun with the topics in open discussions at Conventions, we have been able to bring all kinds of materials and display the history of the various fandoms we love. Depending on the convention we custom tailor the topic to make sure the kids are getting what they expect. Whatever the genre, We hope to see you and geek out together on these topics.
Some from the past tailored for certain conventions:
History of Survival Horror - ScreamFest
History of Street Fighter - A&G Ohio
History of King of Fighters - Anime USA
History of Gaming - ScrewAttack GameCon
History of Mortal Kombat - Little Rock GameCon / Northwest Arkansas GameCon
My new series of apocalypse survival books will be completed in September, the first entry "OH SHIT! ZOMBIES" followed by "OH SHIT! THAT'S NOT E.T." in 2012, will focus on Hollywood and realistic concepts of apocalypses based on these genres of films. I will talk about some of the basics of survival from a military standpoint and from the eyes of a nerd. What about what Hollywood likes to show us? I'll talk about how I reference Hollywood in these books to compare what the characters in these films have done, to what we could and probably should do in real life. I keep freaking people out with Medical history and Clinical Documents and tests...Maybe you can handle the truth!
(How I Survived 20 years in the Convention Industry)
Because Sometimes you have to Ask "What the F%$K"
Hi, my name is Manny and I've seen some crazy S%&^! This industry is as fun and amazing as it is nerve wrecking and insane. Drama, Insanity, Alcohol driven behavior and sometimes angry naked porn stars that just want to cause trouble. Perhaps a visit from a completely naked nerd wearing only black body paint who broke into my hotel room, perched on one of the sofas waiting for me, only to yell out "I will become you" decides to visit. You never know what this industry will deliver next. I have, incoming cliche, seen it all, but I have also done much worse (Ok half Cliche). So come and discuss some of my crazy experiences and share some of yours as I talk about some of the stories in my first book.
