During Dragon*Con, Team GPX ran into a lot of interesting people. One particular group caught our attention; GMX. We interviewew Jeremy Miller, managing director of the Geek Media Expo, or GMX. This event is taking place at the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville, Tennesse October 21-23, 2011. Jeremy explained that this multi-fandom event covers all facets of geek culture and, in its third year, it is better than ever!
GMX stemmed from MTAC, an anime conventions running 12 years strong. GMX grew out of the need for a multi-fandom that had a professional polish. This convention is perfect for the geek in Nashville, due in part to its wonderful programming and its unique view on guests and attendees. Jeremy explained that GMX really wants their guests to interact with the attendees and be involved with the programming. For example, Portal fans will love "Gaming with GLaDOS", which is a gaming event with Ellen McClain, the voice of GLaDOS. Players will enjoy their game play while McClain makes live, witty commentary.
Ellen McClain isn't the only one on the list of guests for GMX. Samantha Newark, the voice of Jem from Jem and the Holograms, will be in attendance, as well as the zombies from The Walking Dead, including Sonya Thompson. For RPG gamers, Jamie Chambers, the game designer behind the Age of Mortals and Battlestar Galatica role playing games, will be there too. The guest list just keeps on growing and you can check it out here.
Aside from the guest lineup, you can check out all of the exhibitions that will be there as well. Steampunk cosplayers will be pleased to know about Dr. Torque's Traveling Exposition of Curious Contraptions and Fantastical Oddities. Under a large pavillion, attendees will get to witness steampowered devices, steampunk musicians, magicians, and palm readers. There will also be a Clocktease burlesque for the more mature steampunk fan. Star Wars fans can look forward to a Jedi Trials obstacle course called the "Way of the Force" and a Tauntaun sack race. Finally, aspiring artists should check out the GMX Warp Speed Drawing Showdown. There is a lot of programming and you can check out what suits your personal tastes here.
