IDW to Release Artist's Edition of Wally Wood's EC Stories!

E-mail Print PDF

Wally Wood was an innovative American comic artist whose repertoire included such titles as Mad magazine, Will Eisner's The Spirit, Daredevil, and a giant mural depicting Disney characters engaged in a Calligulian orgy. Yes, you read that correctly. Do a quick Google search on the man's work and you'll find all kinds of smutty goodness. I'll wait.

You done yet?

Direct from the press release:

Few comics creators have been lauded as the kind of iconoclast and innovator Wally Wood was. So, what more fitting a tribute than an a lovingly exacting, mega-sized Artist’s Edition of his seminal work?

“Wally Wood is absolutely one of my all-time favorites,” said Artist’s Edition editor Scott Dunbier, “I love all these Artist’s Editions but this is the one I’ve been dying to have!”

As far as fan reaction to the book, Ain’t It Cool News’ head honcho Harry Knowles tweeted “HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD! Just got the IDW Wally Wood EC Stories ARTIST'S EDITION... it's the greatest anything ever…”

Since their inception, IDW’s Artist’s Editions have been intended as eye-popping, brain-frying, must-have books for diehard comics fans; true artifacts and testaments to the artistic greatness of their subjects. As is often the case, IDW has upped the ante in order to pay proper tribute to the late, great Wally Wood. This particular volume has been kept to the high, precise standards of previous Artist’s Editions, but due to the larger size of the original art, fans will be treated to a 15” x 22” monolith of illustrative achievement. Just like Wally Wood’s legend, this book is just a little bigger than the rest.

Note: There doesn't seem to be any place to pre-order the book from yet (the link in IDW's online shop is broken), but we'll update you when we find out how you can buy this beauty of a book. Stay tuned!

Trekkies and Whovians Unite!

Nope, that's not a fanart. That's the (so far) official cover of the brand new Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation crossover comic coming out this May! I'll most certainly be picking this up as soon as it hits shelves; TNG was my first love, and DW is my current one (well, love that's still running). I'm actually surprised this mashup hasn't happened sooner (outside of fan fiction). It's the perfect crossover! Well, until Picard and Riker have enough of the Doctor's ramblings and runnings-about that they use him as a photon torpedo. Just sayin'. Head on over to IDW Publishing's site for the full press release, and get ready for the awesomeness! Make it so! (Yes, I totally just used that phrase, stfu.)

Right now, you can catch True Blood: The French Quarter, which follows Sookie and Eric's hunt for a supposedly long-dead killer in New Orleans, in your local comic shops; a compilation of the entire series will be available in March of next year.
