Emerald City Comicon has been coming out with a bunch of announcements. Steve Niles, author of the wildly popular comic book series 30 Days of Night, has furthered his occult dectective, Cal McDonald, in a brand new series. Criminal Macabre: The Iron Spirit will be sold in a new hardcover collector's format along with Eisner winner Scott Morse of Pixar. If you love the horror genre and love the monsters and mysteries that come out of it, check out Steve Niles and his upcoming work. You can even download a copy of one of his other comics, Edge of Doom #2, for free. You won't be sorry.!

Direct from the press release sent to GPX:

Brimming with terror, Criminal Macabre: The Iron Spirit is a perfect introduction for new readers. A haunted veteran leads monster hunter Cal McDonald to a creepy subterreanean military base where mad-science experiments were conducted on US soldiers.

"Iron Spirit" combines all of my favorite things. I wrote it as prose and handed it to Scott Morse and now Dark Horse is publishing it. I think readers will be surprised at this oddly touching story about the death and undeath and the responsibilities that come with both," said Steven Niles.

Praise for Criminal Macabre:

"Steve Niles has beaten up his main man, broken him down and now stands on the precipice of reinventing him with a conflict on the horizon that portends to be nothing short of epic." - Newsrama

Criminal Macabre: The Iron Spirit will go on sale September 12, 2012.

Brand New Alien Comic from Dark Horse!

E-mail Print PDF

Our friends over at Dark Horse have just announced a brand new comic series featuring what was originally a tale in the Dark Horse Presents anthology! We present to you: Resident Alien!

"A stranded alien seeks refuge in the small town of Patience, USA, where he hides undercover as a semiretired doctor, masking his appearance using his unique mental abilities. Now known as Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle, all the alien wants is to be left alone until he’s rescued. However, when the town’s real doctor dies, “Dr. Harry” is pulled into medical service—and also finds himself smack dab in the middle of a murder mystery! He’d rather be fishing. Acclaimed creators Peter Hogan (2000 AD, Tom Strong) and Steve Parkhouse (Doctor Who) deliver a truly unique sci-fi adventure tale!"

The first issue of the new series releases on April 18, and the second will hit stores May 23.

E-mail Print PDF

Radical Entertainment, the folks behind the highly anticipated Prototype 2 video game, has joined together with comic giant Dark Horse for a brand new comic series set in the video game universe. The series will consist of three original stories that take place between the ending of the first Prototype game and the beginning of the sequel game, which is due out on April 24, 2012.

Direct from the press release:

The all-new digital comic series will be broken into three original stories that bridge the gap between the original blockbuster game and the highly anticipated sequel, PROTOTYPE 2.  The first entry, “The Anchor,” illustrated by Paco Díaz, continues the story of Alex Mercer, the protagonist from the first game, while the second story, "The Survivors," illustrated by Chris Staggs, follows a small group of residents of New York trying to escape the city after it has been transformed into NYZ with the outbreak of the Blacklight virus. The third and final story, illustrated by Victor Drujiniu, is "The Labyrinth" and provides fans a deeper look into the backstory of PROTOTYPE 2’s new protagonist, Sgt. James Heller.  Each comic in the series will be available at Digital.Darkhorse.com every other week beginning February 15, 2012.

Here's a sneak peek of the comic, just for you!

What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to the next installment of the Prototype universe, the new comics, or both?
