Oh dear God, I love mechs (I say mech as it assumes all of them, as opposed to mecha, which pressumes only anime-based giant robots). For years, fans of all ages and genres have argued which is the most powerful, the biggest, and the most ridiculous robot. We're here to settle the argument once and for all, but we will also create a seperate list in specific categories: largest, most powerful overall, most powerful attack, most powerful defense, etc. There's much to discuss, and so many giant mechs with so little time!
I love reading about some of my favorite passtimes, and that includes reading various forums where anime fans nerdrage endlessly over various minor details in forum based arguments about "my gundam is better than your gundam". I love reading those articles, because sometimes in the midst of a crazed fans commentary, and general flame toward someone else, there might be some truth.
One of the things I notice often in those commentaries are the weapons used by the Gundams in questions, as to their power. But these are weapons that can be carried by any other model. So to make life simple in our top ten list I'm going to focus our top ten to powers and abilities that are inherent in the Gundam, not on a carried weapon...so for example, Physalis is a cool gundam, but take away that Bazooka and it pretty much is a limp duck...We'll add a list at the end of "Wow!" weapons in the gundam universe and perhaps we can help our fellow fans (nerds) get pointed in the right direction; or start another flame war.
Here is our list of the most awesome Gundam Mech's to grace our imaginations.

Dejuan Dixon Mecha
Sometimes an anime series of the mecha genre ends up being a good anime or ends up being legendary (Evangelion, Gundam, etc.). But, to be frank, Linebarrels of Iron is not one of them. The story revolves around Kouichi Hayase, a weak, and annoying middle school student, who, during a shortcut home, is killed by a giant robot called a Machina. When Kouichi wakes, there is a naked girl asleep behind him and the Machina in front him. Soon after, the mysterious organization of KATO attacks and Kouichi use the Machina to fight them.
This only scratches the surface of the storyline and it gets more in-depth and complicated. One of the problems I have with Linebarrels of Iron comes from the complication of the storyline. It becomes TOO overly complicated! Did I say overcomplicated yet? Another problem is the fact that Kouichi, as a character, is an annoying little girl. Think about Naruto's catchphrase "Believe it", multiply that by 10, and you get Kouichi's phrase of "I am the ally of Justice". By the third episode I wanted to kill him, and by the end of the series, I had a loaded pistol to the side of my head. My last problem was the large amount of unrequited love displayed. This person loves this person, and that person likes that person, etc. It becomes cumbersome and isn't necessary.
On a smaller note I wondered why? Since one girl was in middle school; she had the bust of a grown woman (just putting it out there). About the only thing Linebarrels of Iron does do well? Its thoughts on justice and what is "true justice" are actually decent. The series isn't the worst thing I've seen (the only thing that prevents that is the mechas) but it's not the best and certainly isn't good. The series is available on Netflix but watch at your own risk.
Awesome Tuesday Anime, you've never seen. Patlabor. This is a film that has a solid series behind it (OVA's and Sequels), it's not ridiculously exaggerated Giant Robots. It's not the be-all-end-all universal destruction, dear god, the human race is ending giant mech Anime. So don't expect the Labors (pronounced Lay-BOREs) to grow to Galactic size and grab galaxies and mix them up into a Holy Shit Kamehameha style blast of Cosmic Death. Or be fueled by the Power of Ide to cross insterstellar amounts of energy...No...This is a story driven and down to earth near futuristic scenario, where we they large machines of burden (construction, Police Work, War Machines, etc.) to do tasks and sometimes there are those random mechs that go nuts or the simple jerks that like to cause trouble with these giant mechs; Needing special "Patrol Labors" to handle the job. There are a lot of very cool variations in the designs and models.
Pulling out the Random Anime to watch, Megazone is an oldie but a goodie. Spliced with Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross to create Robotech: The Movie it is one hell of a title that any anime fan claiming his salt has to see to understand and appreciate.
